Route to Santiago de Compostella

The pilgrims’ trail to Santiago de Compostella runs through the area. You will therefore find many beautiful churches and historical monuments in the surrounding area. Several of these are World Heritage Sites. Examples of these are the former cathedral in Bazas as well as the two basilicas and the cathedral in Bordeaux.

Enjoying cultural experiences is more than a possibility during a stay in the Gironde. Various cities are located in this region each with its own rich and varied history and historical heritage.

The capital Bordeaux was, and is, an important harbor and important supply route for the areas further inland. In the 18th century center of the city we find beautifully restored wine sellers mansions, and following a large scale reconstructive effort the quay of the Garonne, the city parks, and the promenades and buildings have been restored to their former glory. Bordeaux also contains many museums.
